Khanh Hoa is a land that has a long-standing historical cuture. Thousands of years ago, people had been living and earning their living here. That is why they can still preserve their own cutural festival. The particular feature of Khanh Hoa folk culture is that this land has many regional carnivals, such as Ca Ong, Thap Ba, Am Chua, etc.

Am chua festival
This festival is celebrated on April 24th of lunar calendar to conmemorate female God Thien Y A Na who is venerated to be Ba Chua, Me Xu So in An Chua, where people worship Po Nagar.
From what has been rumored, this is where she came to earth and spent her childhood in a old farmer couple’s house. Because of this, people has put a temper up to conmemorate her.
Am chua festival consists of 2 parts: festival and ceremony. After the solemn worship time, inhabitants have some fun through many plays. Dancing is spontaneously performed to recollect the picture of legend Thien Y A Na.

Thap Ba festival
This festival takes place in Ponagar tower vestige area, Nha Trang city annually from 20th to 24th of March (lunar calendar). This is a biggest festival of all in such area. People hold it to conmemorate Po Nogar.
As what have been said in legend, she was the woman who created this land, found seed rice plant and taught inhabitants to do the farming.
Ritual includes two chief periods: Changing cloth ceremony (on March 20th) ( ie taking old hat, clothes off, put new brand new hat, clothes on) and Saying prayers ceremony (on March 23th) (proceeding in a supremely solemn atmosphere with purpose of extolling Po Nogar and wishing a peaceful, sufficent, happy life.
After the ritual, festival continues with some other programs. Especially, dancing with balls is one kind of dance, in this performance, many female artists do some difficult techniques like weaving, bending their bodies. A competitive contest of festival is boat racing. It is held in the river under tower.
As a matter of fact, Thap Ba festival not only attracts local people but it can possibly make a good impression on people from all over the country. They make a trip to such place to join this ebulient carnival that only takes place once in a year.

Ca Ong (Whale) festival
This festival is related to a legend which informs that there was a whale saving King Gia Long’s life in the sea. Every year, many local places in Khanh Hoa province celebrate festival in various ways to show people’s respect to Whale. Ritual in such festiaval is the same as rampart ceremony in some Northern provinces. Also, hat ba trao takes place and after that, hoi hat chau.
